Let's Get This Straight

Zandi and I talked it over and we decided that one of the first and most important things that I needed to learn to become a girly girl was how to straighten my own hair . I have always liked the way my hair looks when it is straightened. It looks longer and blonder. However, when I want this look, I have to call up Zandi or one of my other friends to straighten it for me.

The goal is for me to be able to get my hair as straight as the above picture all by myself. Let's see if it is possible.

The first thing you need to know about using a straightener is that it is very hot, but there is no need to be afraid. It may smoke a little, but that is perfectly normal, as Zandi explained to me when I freaked out. For this reason, you should always spray your hair with something that will protect it from the heat. In my case, I used TRESemme Thermal Creations.

Then brush your hair out and prepare your hair clips.

Next, take the top half of your hair and leave a small section at the nape of your neck. Clip all the hair up, except for the small section you left.

After you finish straightening that small section of hair, take your hair down and pull up a smaller section of hair, leaving the already straightened part and more of your hair down. The trick is to keep straightening the layers and work from the bottom layers up. Since my hair is wavy, I tried to concentrate on straightening the ends the most.

As you get to the top, the top sections are the ones you need to worry about the most. The bottom ones are already straight. If you continue to straighten the bottom layers, it can damage your hair. Also, make sure that as you are straightening the top section, you straighten where your part is. This will make your hair look better once you are finished.

Ta-da! Beautiful straight hair to flaunt at all the social events...or just in class. Now, there were a lot of steps to this process, and Zandi had to assist me during some parts. Straightening my hair is just something that I am going to have to practice to perfect. But, now that I know the basic steps, I am just a couple of practices away from being able to straighten my hair on my own. Girly girl here I come!
