Mommy Wow, I'm a Big Kidd Now

Hello girly girls everywhere! It has been a while since I wrote a post. I know you have missed me :). I think it is time to catch you up.

I am now a college graduate. Yep, that's right. I have graduated from Catawba College and have now entered the real world.

I'm so grown up :)

The 4 years that I spent at Catawba College forever changed me and I believe that they have changed me for the better. I would like to thank all my friends, family, professors, and any others that helped me along the journey. The journey to becoming a girly girl may still be ongoing, but the journey to becoming a college graduate has come to an end. 

So what am I doing now? Well... I have a dream job and I am making millions of dollars! Yeah..so that is a little far from the truth. Actually, I am currently jobless and I am living at home with my parents and brothers, attending baseball games and working in the tobacco fields. Glamorous life right?

Anyway, I have been applying for jobs like crazy, but since nothing has come my way, I have decided to blog every now and then to pass the time. I cannot promise this will be a weekly, or even a monthly thing, but whenever I get the inspiration, I will try my best to post something.

The truth is, the possibilities are endless when it comes to trying to be a girly girl, and I have a lot more to learn to be labeled that way. So stay tuned for upcoming posts, and stay girly. :)

Don't Call Me a Tease

Men may not like to be teased, but hair sure does. :)

This week, we have a lesson in teasing your hair taught by Miss Zandi Watts. The definition of teasing is to comb by taking hold of a strand and pushing the short hairs toward the scalp with the comb. Basically, it is what girly girls do to give their hair some volume.

It always looked confusing to me, I never quite understood what the whole point of this whole teasing thing was, so I decided to find out for myself. It is very simply because there are really just 2 steps to the process

In order to tease, you first need a special comb called a rat tail comb. Yes, I also think this is an odd name.

Step 1: Using the back of the comb, section off some of your hair from the back of your head.

Step 2: Tease down, as close to the roots as possible. Teasing is basically moving the comb in a vertical otherwise known as up and down.

Continue this teasing process until you feel that you have enough volume in your hair. When you are finished, your hair should be bigger and better.

Men Can Be Beautiful Too

As most of you know, this past week was Catawbapalooza week. It is a great week, with events happening every night for students to attend. Basically, it is a week for students to party, put off homework, and try to win some money at decathlons and competitions.

The most exciting event that Catawba had this year was something called Xtreme Air. Students were suspended in air above a huge fan, almost like skydiving. It was very scary at first, but it was so worth the nervousness. Catawba has never had anything like it before.

I'm flying!

Anyway, this is a blog about girly things so I am here to talk to you about the event that was held on Thursday night. The Womanless Beauty Pageant.

Every Catawbapalooza, the Helen Foil Beard Society holds the Womenless Beauty Pageant. This is a chance for the male students to get dressed up and fight for the crown of Ms. Catawbapalooza. I am here to give a shout out to the beautiful (if that is what you want to call them) contestants that participated in the competition this year.

Congratulations on throwing away your dignity, and becoming beautiful girly girl women for the night. And now, I will introduce the winners to you.....prepare to be in awe at their beauty.

Miss Congeniality went to Ms. D.J. Shipp

2nd place went to the tall glass of freak, Ms. Stuart Thomson aka Amanda Swallows (like the bird)

And finally, 1st place went to...drum roll please.... Ms. Jordan Clifton. His amazing performance and beautiful evening gown impressed the judges enough to award him the grand prize.

Congratulations to all of you beautiful young ladies. You put the girly in girly girl.

I Wear My Sunglasses.....Everywhere

Let's play a guessing game. What is Paris Hilton wearing in this picture that every girly girl needs?

If you guessed sunglasses, you are correct. And you probably cheated by reading the title of this post.

Now, as you know, I am not a very girly girl...YET....but the one thing that I do understand completely is the need for sunglasses as an accessory.

I have a problem. My problem is that I am addicted to sunglasses. Stunna Shades, specs, hater blockers...whatever you want to call them, I love them. My best friends Katie Parham, Nicole Harper, Cortney Davis and I went through a phase where we could not stop buying new sunglasses. Everywhere we went, we found a new pair that we just had to own.

Every time there was a new trend or type of sunglasses that appeared in the stores, we ran out to find it. One of the most fun things for us, was finding them in all types of different colors.

My momma finally put her foot down and told me that I had to take a break from spending all my money on shades, but by that time I already had a very big collection.

Every girly girl needs at least a few different types of sunglasses for different types of outfits. Take my word for it, you want your shades to look good with your attire. 

My love for sunglasses also carried over to college, where my roommate Lisa Easter and I were never without our "Stunna Shades". Lisa rocked them whatever chance she got.

Having these "stunna shades" was the only way to go. Often times, the bigger the shades were, the better.

 We wore them out shopping, to parties, and to lay out on the lawn. We never left our room without them. It was a big trend, and I was happy to follow it. My love for sunglasses grew, and my momma had to tell me to stop spending so much money on them....again.

After freshman year, the "stunna shades" craze calmed down a little, and I was able to start spending my money on other, more important things. Those more important things were clothes to go out in ;)  But, I still had a love for sunglasses, so I still wore them often, even in the snow.

Recently, I have been trying to be a grown up and only wearing my normal black sunglasses out and about. However, you can still catch me wearing pink, yellow, blue, or red sunglasses on pretty sunny days.

So what is the moral of this story? Sunglasses are a must have accessory for any normal girly girl.

 ps- They also keep the sun out of your eyes quite nicely :)

The Liquid Eyeliner Challenge

About a week or so ago I told you that I had been given a challenge. In this post, I have accepted that challenge and I am going to face off against the always scary liquid eyeliner. Ahhh!!

My good friend Morgan Wilson is the one that challenged me in this area. Morgan is not afraid of anything. Morgan is a girly girl to the max. Morgan works in Nashville doing makeup for famous country singers. Morgan says there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to liquid eyeliner. We shall see if Morgan is right.

 The beautiful Morgan herself, wrote out all the steps of the liquid eyeliner applying process. I read them, tried them, and now I am going to share them with you lovely people.

First of all, you always apply the eye shadow first. I used to think that the eyeliner was the first step. I was very wrong. Always apply the eyeshadow first. Don't forget haha. Then its eyeliner time!!

Step 1: Use a freshly-sharpened black eyeliner pencil to draw a thin line across your lash line. Morgan said that her personal favorite is MAC's smolder.


The line should be as close to your eyelashes as possible.

Step 2: Using a liquid liner with a thin felt-tip, thinly trace the pencil line, beginning at the inside corner. I used Covergirl liquid eyeliner.

Pulling your eye tight with the hand you don't write with (if you're left handed, use your right) trace along the pencil line with the hand you write with for the best control. The area of skin around your eye is extremely sensitive so don't pull hard.

 Step 3: You should now have perfectly straight eyeliner (on your 5th or 6th try) do not give up the first 4 tries...it takes practice. Now apply mascara and voila, you have perfectly defined eyes!

See girls, liquid eyeliner is not that scary. I did it perfectly the first time!! Ok ok, you caught me, my line was not perfect. However, I do believe that it is an art that I can master with enough practice. AND... If any of you ever need any makeup assistance, Morgan Wilson is the girl to turn to, she knows her stuff. I would like to thank her for sending me these steps and also for brightening up my life with her personality.

A guest post from Amanda: Get Girly Girl Eyebrows!

Hey everyone! For this post you I am sorry to say that you are not getting me dear friend Erin. I know this may sound like the end of the world but trust me you are in good hands! So I decided that since Erin's blog is focusing on her journey to become a girly girl, one thing I think is important for her and any girl to know is how to shape and pluck your eyebrows.

Step One: Find your shape

1)Green 2)Red 3)Blue

The first thing you need to do before plucking is determine the shape your eyebrow should be. To do this you should follow three simple steps. First you , need something to follow a line with such as a eyeliner stick or your tweezers if they will reach from your eyebrow to your nose. Use the picture to the left for help.To start your shape you need to make an imaginary line from the outside of the nostril under that eye to your eyebrow (see green line), this is where your eyebrow should start. Next you want to make another line from the tip of your nose through the middle of your eye to your peak (see red line). Finally, make a line from the same part of the nostril past the outside corner of your eye to your eye brow (see blue line), this is where your eyebrow should stop.


Step Two: PLUCK!

After you have determined the shape of your eyebrows you can begin to pluck. Here are some tips.
   *Always pluck in the direction that your hair grows.
   * Do not over pluck! Thin, barely there eyebrows are not in style and are NOT attractive!
   * Pull your skin taunt before you puck to cut down some of the pain.
   * If you are worried about the pain, use some tooth numbing gel like Orajel or Anbesol.
   * Step back and look at your eyebrows from a distance to check your progress and keep from over plucking!

I hope that you find these tips easy to follow! Just remember, you can always take more off but you can't put it back on! Take your time so you don't over pluck!! Good luck and thank you for reading my guest blog! :]

What it means to be a girly girl in Tokyo : Guest Post by Shea Flood

Hey girls! For those of you who do not know me my name is Shea Flood and I write a blog all about Tokyo, "Guide to Tokyo." I know most of you are probably thinking well what does that have to do with being a girly girl? Actually, to answer that question, a lot. The fashion over in Tokyo is absolutely incredible and I feel like Erin's blog "Becoming a Girly Girl" is a perfect choice to write about it on so thanks again Erin!

First of all, all ladies of Tokyo are always dressed to impress. Not once did I see a woman in sweats. Majority of the women wore skirts, even in the cold weather! ( I visited early January) However, they always paired their skirts with knee high  fur boots, a collared shirt, and a cute peacoat.

Makeup is always very light unless you're headed to Harajuku then everything is different and more drastic.  Harajuku is insane fashion. High heels, gothic to preppy drag outfits, and loads of makeup. Fashion is looked at as art in that distric. Usually though, asian have such flawless skin because they keep their complexion looking very natural so they shy away from the caked look.

In the United States we mostly see Asian women rock the straight haired look but in Tokyo mostly all of the woman have their hair in lose curls giving it a very flowly look.

So, put the outfit with the hair and little makeup then pair that with a designer purse and you've got the look of a fabulous woman in Tokyo!
